#Story
In England, men-only barbershops once had a slightly dodgy reputation. If you walked past one, you’d probably think twice before entering. But Birmingham entrepreneur David Sturgeon has made a niche for himself, by offering both old-fashioned wet shaves and a good, modern haircut.
#MasterBarber
David cuts hair every day. He’s not the type to sit in an office and tell people what to do. He stands beside his team, and he still loves doing what he does after fifteen years. He believes that this is the key to making any creative business work.
“At the end of the day, you’re standing on your feet for hours, and it’s hard work, so you should only do it if you have a passion for it.” – David Sturgeon, Master Barber.
#Idea
Having started in the industry at the age of eighteen he found that high-street chains really didn’t know how to do men’s grooming. He realised there was a market for someone who specialises in a neater cut, done carefully and reliably. He’s taken everything that he loves about the traditional barbershop and added a modern twist to it.
#Team
Our staff are local people and in Birmingham, the talent base is really strong. The people that put on their waistcoats at Shepherds every morning, do it because they have a passion for it.
